As an effort to preserve the coconut germplasm commodity and also the use of coconut in rehabilitating and conserving land as an effort to seize the glory of coconut in Indonesia, Samarinda State Agricultural Polytechnic together with KOPEK (Coalition Government Coalition of Coconut Producing Districts) successfully held a major event, namely the international seminar "Coconut Conservation Conference" which was held at Novotel Balikpapan Wednesday (29/6/2022). The seminar which was coupled with planting coconuts of various types from various districts was held in the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation area, Samboja Lestari on Thursday (30/06).

The Coconut Conservation Conference (C3) with the theme being Coconut for Conservation and Conserving World Coconut presented extraordinary speakers, namely the Head of Kopek Prof. Nelson Pomalingo, the chairman of the International Coconut community (ICC) Dr. Jelfina C. Alouw, M.Sc., Ph.D, Advisor, Coconut Knowledge Center Ir. Yohanes Samosir P., Dip. Ag. St. Ph.D. Viraj Bagaria from T&I Global India, Head of Balitpalma, Manado Dr. Steivie Karouw, S.Tp., M.Sc. Awaluddin Ap.com, Shi, from CV. Printis Mitra Mandiri Sukses, East Kalimantan coconut fiber industry. In addition, the regents, deputy regents, heads of the agriculture and plantation offices from each district, observers and entrepreneurs/coconut associations, AFKASI, universities/academics and also the government of Balikpapan and Samarinda were also present.

Heriad Daud as the Chair of the Committee said that this coconut conference was the first time it was held at the initiation of the Samarinda State Agricultural Polytechnic in collaboration with the Coalition of the Coconut Producing District Government (KOPEK) by presenting the regent, deputy regent and heads of services from relevant agencies from all over Indonesia as well as coconut and coconut observers. This event took place because of the support from various parties such as the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOSF), the Balikpapan city government, BPSILHK Samboja, the Forestry Service, and many other parties. he said.

Meanwhile, Hamka as the Director of Politani Samarinda in his speech said that coconut is a plant of life and cannot be separated from the lives of Indonesian people. Coconut is the germplasm of the archipelago that must be present in the IKN area, Hamka also hopes that this activity will encourage the formation of a new study program specifically for coconut so that it can produce reliable human resources in this coconut commodity. Hamka also shared his experience as a child enjoying the delicious by-product of making oil, namely Blondo and nowadays it is very rare to find it because not many people make oil from coconut anymore. he said.

Ujang Rahmad as the Head of Plantation Division of the East Kalimantan Province who was present to represent and read the remarks the Governor of East Kalimantan said that coconut plantations in East Kalimantan were only about 1% of the total plantation commodities in East Kalimantan. . According to him, this is not good for the economy because one day the commodity will experience a decline in price, there will be a shock in the community's economy, as is happening today. The East Kalimantan government strongly supports the development of coconut as a diversification of plantation commodities. It's just that it needs to be ensured that later this coconut product can be absorbed by the market. And hope that this conference will produce a formula to overcome the constraints in coconut development. he said.

Meanwhile, the Minister of National Development Planning/Bappenas Suharso Monoarfa in his remarks read by the Director of food and agriculture Anang Nugroho, hoped that with the enthusiasm of the Kopek members, the glory of coconut could be revived. He explained that from year to year Indonesia's coconut production continued to decline, even though according to 2020 data, coconut exports reached 1.2 billion USD. And become the largest foreign exchange earner in Indonesia. “Thank you for the cooperation of all parties who support all these activities. Hopefully this conference can give birth to ideas that can revive coconuts, and encourage the preservation of Indonesian coconuts," he said.

Head of Kopek Prof. Nelson Pomalingo who is also the Regent of Gorontalo conveyed several things related to the need for synergies from upstream and downstream so that farmers are interested in planting coconuts, and it is hoped that the leaders of coconut producing regions need to issue policies to expand the coconut planting area, so that plantations are not only dominated by oil palm, and the need for collaboration with industry to ensure that coconut-derived products can be absorbed by the market. He further stated that there is a need for a government policy to expand the land area for coconut cultivation, for example in East Kalimantan to make concessions for additional land use for coconut plantation areas, the presence of KOPEK is expected to encourage coconut development.
