SAMARINDA (15/10/2026) – The State Agricultural Polytechnic of Samarinda (Politani Samarinda) hosted a visit and coordination meeting with the Regional Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) for Plantation Seed Supervision, under the Plantation Office of East Kalimantan Province, on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. The meeting, held in the Director’s Meeting Room on the second floor of the Politani Samarinda Directorate Building, focused on the management of coffee genetic resources (GR) in East Kalimantan and plans for the official release of local coffee plant varieties.
The delegation was welcomed by the Director of Politani Samarinda, Dr. Heriad Daud Salusu, S.Hut., M.P., accompanied by the Head and Secretary of the Agricultural Department, as well as the heads of the various study programs within the department.
This coordination was prompted by the significant potential of coffee genetic resources in East Kalimantan, which require optimal management and development. According to the UPTD for Plantation Seed Supervision of East Kalimantan Province, the region currently lacks any officially registered and released local superior coffee varieties.
The visit served as a platform for coordination and consultation regarding the planned release of East Kalimantan coffee varieties—a key component of broader efforts to manage plant genetic resources. This initiative is a crucial step toward fostering the development of local coffee commodities through the targeted management of plant genetic potential.
For Politani Samarinda, this engagement represents a collaborative space between a vocational higher education institution and a local government agency to support the development of the plantation sector. This synergy is expected to strengthen the role of vocational education in advancing the region’s flagship commodities, while simultaneously supporting the conservation and utilization of plantation crop genetic resources in East Kalimantan.
This coordination regarding the management of coffee genetic resources aligns with the broader objective of bolstering local plantation potential through collaboration, knowledge development, and the sustainable utilization of agricultural resources. Through the synergy between Politani Samarinda and the Technical Implementation Unit (UPTD) for Plantation Seed Supervision of East Kalimantan Province, it is hoped that the potential of local coffee can be further developed as part of efforts to strengthen the plantation sector and support sustainable agricultural development in the region.
