Message from the Director of Politani Samarinda Hamka, S.TP., M.Sc., M.P. started a public lecture led by Maulida, S.Hut.,MP. as a moderator. This public lecture at the same time introduces a waste-based industry, namely coconut shell briquettes as an alternative energy that has dominated the world market with Mr. Asep Jembar Mulyana as the founder and CEO of PT. Tom Cococha Indonesia, as well as Chairman of HIPBAKI and a practitioner in the field of coconut charcoal briquettes. Asep in his presentation said that “Coconut shell charcoal briquettes have the potential to be acted on and developed as fuel to replace kerosene and LPG. This is a renewable fuel, the demand for activated charcoal products is very high, because the consumption of barbecue and shisha in the world is very high, more than 350,000 tons per year. This coconut shell charcoal business is also not affected during the Covid-19 pandemic or is not affected by any economic crisis because its sales are 100% exported at foreign exchange rates so that it can run sustainably with waste-based materials. "Demand abroad is quite high but can only be met by around 30-40%, meaning that the opportunity to develop this business is very wide open, but the products produced must be of high quality," said Asep.

He further stated that there are several advantages possessed by coconut charcoal briquettes in terms of business, namely 1) demand is greater than supply, 2) economic resilience is very strong, 3) durable and has no expiration date, 4) is a source of foreign exchange that is profitable. effective and productive, 5) not included in the commodity exchange, 6) the nature of the market is sustainable.
