Public Lecture with the theme of Building Agro Entrepreneurship “Coconut Charcoal Briquette Business Story Dominates the World Market” was held at the Samarinda State Agricultural Polytechnic (Politani Samarinda) offline in the Public Lecture room on May 18, 2022. This public lecture at the same time introduced Coconut Commodity as a raw material which is multi-functional/multi-beneficial, especially the waste which may not be useful for many people but in the hands of innovative, creative people it will bring added value and extraordinary economic value.
Message from the Director of Politani Samarinda Hamka, S.TP., M.Sc., M.P. started a public lecture led by Maulida, S.Hut.,MP. as a moderator. In his speech, Hamka expressed his highest appreciation to the resource persons who were willing to attend the polytany, an extraordinary honor because successful businessmen who have gone worldwide were able to attend to share knowledge with students. at the blue campus of Politani Samarinda, it is hoped that students will be more active in asking questions and gain a lot of knowledge from these resource persons.
This public lecture at the same time introduces a waste-based industry, namely coconut shell briquettes as an alternative energy that has dominated the world market with Mr. Asep Jembar Mulyana as the founder and CEO of PT. Tom Cococha Indonesia, as well as Chairman of HIPBAKI and a practitioner in the field of coconut charcoal briquettes. Asep in his presentation said that “Coconut shell charcoal briquettes have the potential to be acted on and developed as fuel to replace kerosene and LPG. This is a renewable fuel, the demand for activated charcoal products is very high, because the consumption of barbecue and shisha in the world is very high, more than 350,000 tons per year. This coconut shell charcoal business is also not affected during the Covid-19 pandemic or is not affected by any economic crisis because its sales are 100% exported at foreign exchange rates so that it can run sustainably with waste-based materials. "Demand abroad is quite high but can only be met by around 30-40%, meaning that the opportunity to develop this business is very wide open, but the products produced must be of high quality," said Asep.
He further stated that there are several advantages possessed by coconut charcoal briquettes in terms of business, namely 1) demand is greater than supply, 2) economic resilience is very strong, 3) durable and has no expiration date, 4) is a source of foreign exchange that is profitable. effective and productive, 5) not included in the commodity exchange, 6) the nature of the market is sustainable. With the quality of coconut shell charcoal that is always maintained, Indonesia is a producer of activated charcoal for sisha in the world. he said.
