Samarinda, February 2025 – Today marks a milestone for Tanesa Publisher, which for the first time published a book by a foreign author. The book entitled Tsunami Maritime Response and Mitigation Strategy at the Port of Bellingham is a translation of the original work Tsunami Maritime Response and Mitigation Strategy – Port of Bellingham, compiled by experts from the Washington Military Department, Emergency Management Division, in collaboration with various academic and government institutions in the United States.
This book is the result of collaboration with Herdiana Mutmainah, ST, MT, who acts as the translation editor. Herdiana Mutmainah is a researcher at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), with expertise in Coastal Engineering. She completed her Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering at Gadjah Mada University (2002) and her Master's degree in Regional and City Planning at the Bandung Institute of Technology (2010). Her career began at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries in 2006, before becoming a researcher in 2015. Her various written works have been published in national and international journals and proceedings.
This book provides in-depth insights into tsunami threat mitigation and response strategies in coastal areas, with a special focus on the Port of Bellingham in Washington, USA. As the state with the second highest earthquake risk in the United States, Washington is directly exposed to the threat from the Cascadia Subduction Zone which can produce earthquakes of more than 9 SR, triggering tsunami waves as high as 18 meters.
Not only discussing the theory and definition of tsunamis, this book also provides technical guidance, policy recommendations, and mitigation strategies based on real experiences. Complete with comprehensive graphs, maps, and photo documentation, this book is an important reference for the government, port managers, academics, and coastal communities in improving tsunami disaster preparedness.
The launch of this book is a major step for Tanesa Publishers in expanding the scope of its publications to the international realm. With the publication of this book, it is hoped that more quality scientific literature from various parts of the world can be translated and accessed by readers in Indonesia.
